Yesterday, Prima Nota had the pleasure of attending the Afghan Culture Association of South Australia Mother’s Day and Eid Celebration.

The evening was a beautiful celebration of sisterhood, resilience, culture, and community. It was inspiring to see women from so many different backgrounds come together around a shared table to celebrate family, friendship, and the strength that women bring to our communities.

A special thank you to Mursal Jamshedi and the Afghan Culture Association team for their warm hospitality and welcome. It was a pleasure getting to know Mursal and learning more about her remarkable journey. As the founder and the President of the Afghan Culture Association of South Australia, she has spent years supporting Afghan women, children, and newly arrived families while also sharing the beauty and richness of Afghan culture with the wider South Australian community. Her passion, generosity, and commitment to helping others were evident throughout the evening.

One of the highlights of the event was listening to Afghan cultural historian Pamela Ragkowski speak about Afghanistan’s history and cultural heritage. Her presentation offered fascinating insights into a country whose traditions, art, and history are far richer and more complex than many Australians realise.

We were also delighted to share a table and conversation with so many wonderful women, including Lucy Bodnar, the representative of our Russian-speaking community, and many others who generously shared their experiences, stories, and perspectives.

What was especially inspiring was learning more about the ongoing work of the Afghan Culture Association in supporting women and children, both here in Australia and overseas. Their commitment to community, education, cultural preservation, and practical support continues to make a real difference in many lives.

Thank you to everyone who made the evening so memorable. Events like these remind us that culture is not only something we celebrate- it is also something that helps us build understanding, connection, and hope.
