Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week.
Prima Nota, a Russian-speaking community organisation in South Australia, is honoured to share our contribution to Reconciliation Australia’s Voices for Reconciliation initiative.
Our version of “Beds Are Burning” was performed by Prima Nota’s women’s and men’s choirs together, with voices recorded across the full choir collective and selected performers appearing in the video.
Our Prima Nota Collective Choirs performed “Beds Are Burning” in three languages- English, Russian, and Kaurna- bringing together migrant voices, music, and a shared commitment to listening, learning, and walking forward with respect.
And watch for the Russian translation in the second verse!
For many in our community, this project became more than a performance. It was an opportunity to learn, reflect, and take part in an important national conversation about truth, history, land, language, and belonging.
We are deeply grateful to Kuma Kaaru Cultural Services for kindly supporting us with the Kaurna translation of the final line, and to Reconciliation Australia Reconciliation Australia for creating this meaningful initiative.
