Today, May 9, many people across parts of the former Soviet Union commemorate Victory Day — a day of remembrance for veterans and witnesses of the Second World War who fought on the side of the Allied nations.
In some ways, it carries a similar emotional meaning to ANZAC Day in Australia: a time to remember those who served, those who were lost, and the generations whose lives were shaped by war.
This short memorial video was created from photographs shared by families in Australia — remembering relatives who fought, survived, endured occupation, witnessed the Holocaust, served as medics, sailors, engineers, tank soldiers, and civilians during WWII.
Behind every photograph is a human story.
Loved. Remembered. Honoured.
