Our Story: Russian-Speaking Roots, Multicultural Future
Prima Nota Inc. was born out of lived experience.
Our founders — Russian-speaking migrants themselves — saw the gaps that exist when people arrive in a new country: the isolation, the culture shock, the longing for something familiar. But they also saw the potential. The music. The humour. The shared desire to belong and contribute.
What began as a few informal gatherings grew into choirs, game nights, festivals, and workshops — each one grounded in cultural pride, creative joy, and the understanding that community doesn’t just happen. It’s built, note by note.
Our name, Prima Nota, means “the first note.”
It symbolises the beginning of something — a song, a story, a new connection. And for many in our programs, it really is the first note of their new life in Australia.
While our roots are firmly in the Russian-speaking community, our branches reach out to everyone. We partner with other cultural groups, invite non-Russian speakers to join in, and embrace collaboration across language and background.
We believe that integration doesn’t mean erasing identity — it means expressing it, sharing it, and letting it evolve in a new home.
