\ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddfa WE\u2019RE BACK FROM CANBERRA!<\/p>\n

What an incredible few days at Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia – FECCA National Conference 2026, meeting people from across Australia who are working to shape our multicultural future!<\/p>\n

And what a significant conference it was! For the first time in 26 years, a sitting Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, addressed FECCA.<\/p>\n

Our Chair attended the conference, where Dr Shawn Michael O\u2019Donnell presented their co-authored research, Beyond Cultural Difference: Poverty, Trust and Belonging Across Marginalised Communities in Four Countries.<\/p>\n

We came away with plenty to think about.<\/p>\n

– Why are migrants blamed for Australia\u2019s problems while their contributions and qualifications are so often overlooked?<\/p>\n

– Why do we focus on attracting migrants to regional Australia without doing enough to make them want to stay?<\/p>\n

– How do we better protect migrant women facing family violence, language barriers and isolation?<\/p>\n

– How do we ensure that children learning English don\u2019t fall behind at school?<\/p>\n

– And importantly, how do we build a multicultural Australia that genuinely acknowledges and respects First Nations peoples?<\/p>\n

These are not just conference discussions. They are issues we encounter through our community work, including our \u201cWe Listen and We Don\u2019t Judge\u201d program.<\/p>\n

We returned to South Australia with new connections, ideas and an even stronger determination to make our communities more welcoming, safe and inclusive.<\/p>\n

Because belonging is about much more than celebrating different cultures. It\u2019s about how we treat one another. \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n
