Anti-immigration rallies divide us. But the truth is simple: we are all human. We share the same struggles \u2014 putting food on the table, raising children, caring for family, celebrating small joys and carrying heavy losses.<\/p>\n

Migrants are part of this same story. Nearly 30% of Australians were born overseas. They are not bystanders \u2014 they work harder than most, with higher workforce participation than the national average. Skilled migrants fuel our future: a 1% increase in highly educated migrants drives nearly 5% more patents, meaning more medicines, better technology, and stronger industries. International students alone bring $48 billion each year to the economy, keeping universities open, shops thriving, and jobs secure.<\/p>\n

But behind every statistic is a person. A Zimbabwean nurse working double shifts in aged care, while studying at night. An Indian family running a corner grocery where locals gather, their kids topping their classes at school. A Russian-speaking Ukrainian music teacher leading choirs so new arrivals can find belonging through song. These are not numbers \u2014 they are our neighbours, our colleagues, our friends.<\/p>\n

Fear and prejudice erase this human truth. They strip away empathy and turn us into creatures driven only by suspicion and survival. That is not who we are meant to be. What makes us human is our ability to see each other\u2019s dignity, to recognise the same love for our children, the same grief in loss, the same hope for tomorrow.<\/p>\n

When we strip away fear and prejudice, what remains is connection. Every parent wants their child to thrive. Every person wants dignity and safety. This is what unites us.
