At Prima Nota Inc, we often work alongside other multicultural and ethnic community organisations. Many are formally registered as nonprofits- yet the core purpose of a nonprofit is not always well understood.<\/p>\n

So let\u2019s clarify.<\/p>\n

A nonprofit is:
\n\u2022 Created to serve a public or community purpose
\n\u2022 Reinvests all income into its mission
\n\u2022 Operates with fairness, transparency, and collaboration
\n\u2022 Never distributes profit to individuals<\/p>\n

A nonprofit is not:
\n\u2022 A private club or closed circle
\n\u2022 A business seeking to dominate or eliminate others
\n\u2022 A gatekeeper deciding who \u201cbelongs\u201d in the community space<\/p>\n

Why this matters:
\nThe nonprofit sector is built on inclusion, mutual support, and collective wellbeing.
\nWhen nonprofits treat others as threats or competitors, they step outside their role- and risk losing community trust or breaching basic standards of governance.<\/p>\n

A Mother\u2019s Day reflection:
\nReal care- like that of a mother- isn\u2019t about control.
\nIt\u2019s about holding space, nurturing growth, and welcoming many voices at the table.
